The MCB Agroecological Farm, managed by the MCB Forward Foundation in Riche-en-Eau, has officially been awarded the agroecological quality label by the Association Terres d'Agroécologie, making it the first farm in Mauritius to be certified according to an agroecological specification. An official ceremony was held to mark the certificate presentation in Riche-en-Eau on Tuesday, June 24.

This project, the result of exemplary collaboration, was established on land made available by the Beau Vallon Group. Since 2023, the farm has been developed and managed by the MCB Forward Foundation as part of its policy focused on implementing high-impact social and environmental initiatives. It represents a commitment to reaching vulnerable communities, promoting inclusion, and experimenting with sustainable models that can be replicated across society. From the outset, the Association Terres d'Agroécologie has been a technical partner, supporting the farm on the ground with training, planning, monitoring, and certification.

The first discussions about the farm took place in 2022 and were followed in 2023 by an initial educational visit organized as part of the Terres d'Agroécologie Academy training sessions. In December 2024, Terres d'Agroécologie conducted a first audit to assess the farm comprehensively. The aim was to identify strengths and areas for improvement, and to build a pathway toward certification collaboratively.

The farm's management team immediately got to work to meet the various requirements of the Terres d'Agroécologie audit framework. Among other actions, they formalized crop monitoring, developed compost management records, strengthened team organization, and improved technical planning. The farm managers have been fully committed to the process. They also participated in all the training modules of the Terres d'Agroécologie Academy. The label was awarded following a final audit in April 2025, after all the criteria had been met. This project reflects MCB's ongoing commitment to community and sustainable development in Mauritius, demonstrating how businesses can play a significant role in promoting environmentally friendly agricultural practices while strengthening food security and empowering local communities.

In addition to being a site for agricultural production, the MCB Agroecological Farm also serves as a training centre for NGOs supported by the MCB Forward Foundation, teaching ecological and organic farming practices. This represents a significant investment of Rs 7 million. The farm, managed by 14 employees from the foundation under the supervision of a Farm Manager, focuses on food and fruit production and is home to 27 plant species, including five fruit species and a diverse range of herbs and seasonal vegetables.
