National Spelling Bee Competition 2025: Celebrating Excellence in English

The final of the latest edition of the National Spelling Bee Competition was held on Tuesday, June 10, at the MCB St. Jean Auditorium. This competition aims to promote mastery of Shakespeare's language and reward students' knowledge of English spelling from Grade 7 to Grade 10. This contest is held annually by the English Speaking Union with the support of MCB Group.
Around 500 Students from 120 Schools
The Spelling Bee Competition aims to bring together the island's best students around English spelling. This activity offers participants—known as "Spellers"—the opportunity to enrich their vocabulary, improve their spelling, and discover the pronunciation and meaning of new English words. A true institution in the United States, the Spelling Bee is one of the country's oldest and most iconic competitions. This year, nearly 500 students from around 120 schools from across the country participated in this prestigious event. Their participation reflects not only the growing enthusiasm for the English language but also the commitment of schools to promoting linguistic excellence among their students.
And the winners are :
- Grade 7: Vanille Atisse - Morning Star School
- Grade 8: Prayanj Aarush Teewaree Ramnarain - Ebene SSS Boys
- Grade 9: Sohail Saumtally - Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School Nouvelle France
- Grade 10 (two winners): Chelsy Nehemia Veerasawny - Royal College Port-Louis, and Saquib Peerally - Royal College Curepipe
They won cash prizes of Rs 3,000, Rs 4,000, Rs 5,000, and Rs 6,000, respectively.
