MCB expands its payments ecosystem to offer greater choice, convenience and seamless experiences for customers

MCB continues to strengthen its position as a leading payments innovator by further expanding its ecosystem to offer customers a wide range of simple, secure, and convenient payment options tailored to their everyday needs.

From mobile payments to contactless cards, QR solutions and online transactions, MCB has steadily built an integrated payments environment designed to give customers flexibility in how they choose to pay—whether in-store, online or on the go. This approach reflects the Bank’s commitment to support a seamless, safe and inclusive cash-lite economy in Mauritius, while enhancing the overall customer experience across all segments, including individuals, families, and businesses.

Over the years, MCB has continuously enriched its payments landscape through key milestones, including the rollout of its MCB Juice mobile application in 2013, now the most widely used banking app in daily life, the introduction of e-commerce and the deployment of the interoperable MAUCAS QR code introduced by the Bank of Mauritius (BOM).  Combined with contactless card technology and mobile-enabled “Tap to Pay” solutions, these innovations have enabled faster, safer, and more accessible transactions in Mauritius and abroad, while supporting merchants—particularly SMEs—in accepting digital payments with ease and confidence. Over the last five years, the proportion of cash as compared to digital payments among MCB’s retail customers has diminished from 46% in 2021 to 25% in April 2026, a strong indication that we are moving in the right direction and that customers are increasingly adopting digital modes of payment.

As part of this ongoing evolution, MCB is now introducing Apple Pay in Mauritius, adding a new dimension to its already broad palette of payment solutions. Available to MCB customers holding Visa or Mastercard cards, Apple Pay allows users to make secure, contactless payments using their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac. Whether paying in-store or online, customers benefit from a seamless checkout experience that eliminates the need for physical cards or cash.
