National Spelling Bee Competition 2026 : Spelling champions in the spotlight
Port Louis 5 June 2026: The National Spelling Bee competition, which brings together the best spellers from across the island, was held on Thursday, June 4, at the MCB St Jean Auditorium. Through this activity, spellers from Grade 7 to Grade 10 experience the satisfaction of learning new English words while enhancing their spelling and expanding their vocabulary. It is an annual initiative of the English-Speaking Union (ESU), supported by MCB Group.
412 participants from 117 schools across the island
The Spelling Bee concept originated in the United States and is one of the oldest and most iconic competitions in the Country. It has now spread to many English-speaking countries. This year, the competition comprises 117 schools in Mauritius, 412 participants, and 12 participants per category who took part in the Finals.
The four winners (Grades 7 to 10) of the 2026 National Spelling Bee Competition are:
•Grade 7: Tuan Arnav Mahadea from Mahatma Gandhi Secondary School (Nouvelle France)
• Grade 8: Rayaan Bin Zaed Domun from St Andrews College
• Grade 9: Aarush Ramnarain, from Ebène SSS
• Grade 10: Marie Ashton Megan Leslie Paige Kameereddy from Queen Elizabeth College
The four winners received a cash voucher, a shield and some corporate gifts from the Mauritius Commercial Bank.
