New Payment Method: MCB launches Juice Tap in collaboration with VISA

logo

MCB continues to innovate in the field of digital payments with the launch of the Juice Tap service by MCB Juice, using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. This service allows customers to make purchases by simply bringing their mobile phone close to a payment terminal. The activation of this feature is done via the MCB Juice application and requires a phone equipped with the NFC function. At the beginning, the service will be available for VISA card users on Android, and will gradually be extended to Mastercard users on Android. As for iPhone users, the bank has already started discussions with Apple and will communicate on the progress of the project later.

User benefits

This service offers several advantages for MCB customers. Firstly, it is a simple and fast means of payment for everyday use. No need for cash or physical cards. The smartphone, which has become an essential object, is enough to make a purchase, whether in Mauritius or abroad. Moreover, all the customer's payment options are centralized in the digital wallet of their smartphone via MCB Juice.

Security at the heart of Juice Tap

Juice Tap is also a highly secure payment solution, with all transactions encrypted, thus limiting the risk of fraud. Merchants with a terminal accepting contactless payments can already accept Juice Tap payments. It also addresses ecological considerations as it can potentially reduce the use of plastic and paper.

At the forefront of innovation

In a constantly evolving payment context, the launch of this service reaffirms MCB's position as an innovative and proactive bank, constantly seeking to offer practical and secure solutions. The bank thus supports the transition to cashlite, with alternatives to cash such as credit, debit, and prepaid cards, Internet Banking (IB) and Internet Banking Pro (IB Pro) platforms, the interoperable QR MAUCAS, and the MCB Juice and MCB JuicePro applications.

Changing consumption habits

Digital payment methods, which have already been present for several years, have seen their popularity accelerate multi-fold since the Covid-19 pandemic, with a growing interest from Mauritians for contactless transactions. These have doubled in number over the past three years, while the MCB Juice application now has more than 600,000 users.

Stephanie Ng Tseung, Head of Payments at MCB, comments: "Digital payment methods are an integral part of the daily lives of Mauritians. As an innovative bank, we support this evolution with adapted products and services. Juice Tap fits perfectly into the ecosystem we have built to offer Mauritians a complete range of solutions for simple and secure transactions."

Chad Pollock, Vice President and General Manager, Visa East Africa: "VISA aims to offer cutting-edge and secure payment options that enhance the customer experience. We are delighted to partner with MCB to launch Juice Tap, a major step that simplifies daily transactions with this convenient and secure payment method."
